About Us
T.O. Student Tutoring was started back in 2008 by Matt Rhodes, Grant King, and Alex Co during their sophomore year at Thousand Oaks High School. They were looking for a way to make money, and tutoring immediately came to mind. After a few months, they were completely booked and decided to expand the business to include their very smartest peers. Now that the founders are off at college (University of Pennsylvania, Columbia, and Yale), the company is managed by Rebecca Lamp, Liz Riedell, and Brad King. The business has had over 50 student tutors, and is currently working in the Conejo Valley and Walnut, CA.
From 2009-2011, T.O. Student Tutoring worked on a volunteer operation at Park Oaks and Glenwood Elementary School. The schools, located only a few miles from TOHS, have a high population of disadvantaged students. We donated 60+ free hours of tutoring every month by working every Monday and Wednesday after school, and hope to continue our volunteer tutoring at other local schools.
We hope you choose us as your local Tutor. Your first 1 hour lesson is absolutely free, with no commitment to anything more. We assign students to a tutor based on his/her best subject; however, you may choose your own tutor. We hope that you enjoy and connect with your tutor, however if you do not, you have the option to switch over to another. Tutoring is $25/hour and we can work as often or as little as you wish. We recommend setting up a schedule with your tutor. e.g: Every Tuesday and Thursday from 4-5pm.

Tutoring can take place wherever best suits you. Your house, our tutor's house, or the T.O. Public Library. California law states that “tutors are prevented from tutoring if a parent or responsible adult is not present during an in-home tutoring session." So please, either have a parent present while at home or arrange tutoring to be in the public library.
We ask that our students bring any useful material to every lesson. This includes previous tests, ongoing homework, the subject binder, subject textbook, and anything else you feel is important. If you have any other questions, please use the “Contact Us” button on the website or feel free to personally contact one of our tutors.
