Project Volunteer
In 2009, T.O. Student Tutoring breached into the non-profit volunteer side of tutoring with the birth of a volunteer after school program for students at Park Oaks Elementary School.
T.O. Student Tutoring is currently working at Glenwood Elementary School, one of the most disadvantaged schools in the Conejo Valley School District. It's located only 2 minutes away from Thousand Oaks High School.
We volunteer for free every Monday and Wednesday from 3:30-4:30. We're currently working with about 20 Glenwood students, and there are a total of about 45 tutors, with about 10 or so at any one day. If you're interested in tutoring, let us know, we'd love to have you!
If you or your son/daughter attend Glenwood, please talk to the office or your teacher for more information on signing up.
Besides instructing the students in math and reading, we also try to build bonds between tutors and the children, acting as role models. Every once in a while we do fun, hands-on activities, such as a music appreciation day, in which we led the students in building their own instruments, letting them play our own real instruments, and teaching them basic rhythms.
Here's the video of our music day at Park Oaks Elementary School!
